How long does it take Google to index a new blog post?

Answered by ·

The short answer

Left alone, it usually takes Google somewhere between 10 and 30 days to crawl a new page. You can cut that right down by asking Google to index it yourself in Search Console the moment you publish.

Google doesn’t know your article exists. It finds new pages by crawling, and it gets to them in its own time. So a post you were proud of on Monday can sit there unseen for weeks.

The fix is simple. After you publish, copy the URL and paste it into the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console. If it tells you the page isn’t on Google yet, hit Request Indexing. That effectively puts you at the front of the queue.

Make it a non-negotiable step in your publishing checklist, alongside adding FAQs to the page. Every post, every time. On my team, it gets done straight after a post goes live.

If you’re publishing a lot, it’s worth looking at ways to automate the requests.
