Should a service business without a shopfront set up a Google Business Profile?

Answered by ·

The short answer

Yes. It's priority one, even if you never want a customer turning up at your door. It helps people find you, and it's where your Google reviews live.

Without a listing, you’re leaking. Someone hears about you, searches your name, and the business that turns up is a competitor. Those are people who already wanted you. All the brand equity you’ve built ends up sending them to someone else.

When you set it up, I’d list your real address to start with, even if it’s a warehouse. Google verifies it by postcard, and it treats verified businesses as more real than ones it can’t confirm. Once you’re verified, you can go back in and say this is just a service area, please hide the address.

Then go after reviews. Once the profile is live, get as many Google reviews as you possibly can. Ask every happy customer, and keep asking.
